Netball Overview

Netball was developed directly from the sport of basketball. In 1891, James Naismith created the game of basketball for male teams at an American University. Women found the sport as appealing as men and a strange misinterpretation of the rules led to the birth of netball in New Orleans. The game’s popularity grew quickly and before long it was being played in England and many other British Colonies.

Netball appears on the programme for the Commonwealth Games and World Championships are held every four years for both Seniors and Juniors.
