Equestrian Overview

Chariot races and horse racing appeared in the ancient Greek Games and equestrian sports first appeared on the Modern Olympic program at the 1900 Games. However since 1912, the three modern Olympic disciplines have been Dressage, Eventing and Jumping comprising both individual and team events. It is the only sport where man and animal work as a team as well as being one of the few where men and women compete on an equal basis.

Equestrian sports first appeared on the Olympic programme in 1900 and then again in 1912. The format has remained similar since then and the disciplines of Jumping, Dressage and Eventing appear on the current programme.
